Bindeez Beads , Victoria joins drug toy ban - National - smh.com.au

Victoria joins drug toy ban - National - smh.com.au: The Australian Toy of the Year, Bindeez, has been banned in Victoria after it was found to contain a chemical that converts into the illegal drug fantasy when swallowed.

Victorian Consumer Affairs Minister Tony Robinson said the State Government had issued an interim ban order on Bindeez beads, making it illegal to be supplied in Victoria.

The interim ban is for up to three months until further testing takes place.

At least three children in NSW and Queensland have been admitted to hospital after putting the product in their mouths.

"Testing by scientists in NSW found the chemical link to the drug gamma-hydroxy butyrate (GHB) - also known as fantasy or grievous bodily harm - which can also cause drowsiness and can lead to death."
